ITP sound barrier passes the test to protect school from noise
Powerclad Sound Barrier acoustic sheeting was utilised to provide noise reduction for a project delivering a new swimming arena at the Solahallen sports complex in Sola, Norway.
The scheme required the demolition of the existing swimming pool building and construction of a new facility. The site is located adjacent to a school, requiring a protective barrier to shield the pupils and staff from the impact of loud construction work.
Leading security company, Garda Sikring, selected Powerclad Sound Barrier for the site perimeter due to its flame-retardant qualities and advanced acoustic performance which is independently tested to BS EN ISO 717-1. Conforming to the fire test standards outlined in BS 476 Part 12C, the system comprises reinforced PVC with an acoustic foam insulate layer and a reinforced waterproof outer layer for weather protection. Its layered construction provides excellent heat retention.
ITP Export Manager, Peter Winter, said:
“Powerclad Sound Barrier features a special sound absorbing foam that provides both thermal insulation and sound absorption, helping minimise noise emissions in sensitive environments such as construction sites adjacent to schools. The sheeting is approximately 40% lighter than acoustic curtains, putting less strain on the supporting structure under normal and adverse weather conditions.”
Powerclad Sound Barrier has been independently tested to BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010, the International Standard for Measurement of Airborne Sound Insulation of Building Elements. The tests were conducted by the Acoustic Testing Laboratory in the College of Science and Technology at the University of Salford.
Powerclad Sound Barrier is one of a wide range of high-performance solutions within ITP’s range of products for containment and protection on construction sites. The company also manufactures scaffold sheeting, temporary fencing, vented sheeting, keder and temporary roof sheeting, debris netting and insulted sheeting. Many of the products are independently certified to meet T62 fire retardancy standards for external use and T63 standards for internal use.
