Powerclad used in support of Arena Point transformation
A major renovation at Manor Mills in Leeds is the latest façade upgrade project to utilise ITP’s Powerclad scaffold sheeting in support of construction work on high-rise apartment buildings.
National roofing and cladding envelope contractor, Axis Group, is overseeing the replacement of external wall elements which are no longer compliant with the latest fire safety regulations. Axis Group worked with specialist construction consultancy, Richard Boothroyd & Associates Ltd, to identify the non-compliant elements of the façade through investigative works. Their assessment enabled the development of a fully compliant envelope solution requiring the removal and replacement of 1,000m2 of copper, 3,000m2 of render, 500m2 of spandrel panels, 2,000m of aluminium window pods and cappings, and 500m2 of composite cladding. The work will be carried out in six phases with the use of scaffolding installed by contractor, Burflex Ltd.
Burflex used ITP’s Powerclad Premium FR sheeting with printed Axis Group branding to provide robust and durable containment and protection, facilitating a safer and more secure working environment while minimising impact on the local area. Powerclad FR sheeting is tested to achieve fire retardancy certification to TS 62 for external use and TS 63 for internal use for both plain and printed sheeting.
ITP Account Manager, Dave Gilmore, said:
“Having facilitated a wide range of high-rise projects, Burflex have become very prominent in the busy construction environment of Leeds city centre and ITP have supported them on some of the most extensive and high-profile schemes. The Manor Mills renovation is a major programme of works and Burflex decided it required our Premium brand of sheeting, offering the highest tensile strength and eyelet strength. Like all our Powerclad FR sheeting, Powerclad Premium FR is subject to rigorous independent fire safety testing. That’s an important factor in busy city locations where buildings are arranged in close proximity. It’s also an essential compliance requirement for projects over a certain value.”
