Powerful Protection from Puraflex

Ten national brand names will be taking up residence at the new 11,000 sq m Cortonwood Retail Park near Rotherham currently under construction.  Marks & Spencer, JD Sports, River Island, H & M, New Look, Arcadia, Poundland, C J Clarke, Wilkinson and Frankie & Benny’s are confirmed for the development by Helical Retail, which will create 300 new jobs in the area.

The retail park is being built by Sheffield contractors, JF Finnegan, on a former colliery site. Initial site assessment showed that the project demanded the highest level of protection against harmful chemicals, gases and hydrocarbons. A number of protective ground membranes were considered, but only Puraflex from North Yorkshire firm Industrial Textiles & Plastics could offer the necessary high level of protection with an integrated system of both membrane and tanking material. This technologically advanced membrane has no true competition, and has been independently tested and proven to offer significantly greater protection than HDPE.

ITP was involved in the development of the revised standards and guidelines for BS8485, the Code of Practice for the design of protective measures for methane and carbon dioxide ground gases in new buildings.

“BS8485 warns of the use of HDPE/LDPE single layer type membranes with poor resistance to hydrocarbons for contaminated land projects,” explains Paul Harrison, ITP’s geomembrane technical specialist. “Puraflex is simply the best product for brownfield site developments requiring the highest level of protection.”

Environmental engineers can register to access the free Puraflex Permeation Modeller, which provides site-specific permeation data for more than 2,000 harmful contaminants.

The flexible nature of Puraflex, which is also fully compliant to Ciria 748, makes it easier to install by qualified contractors.
