Safe One chosen for another flagship development
ITP has supplied Safe One, the UK’s most advanced breather membrane, for a key phase at Cardiff Central Square, a flagship development from Rightacres which is delivering new civic and recreational space described as ‘a new gateway to the capital of Wales.’
Designed by Holder Mathias Architects, the Cardiff Transport Interchange building is integral to the connectivity which is fundamental to Rightacre’s vision for Cardiff Central Square. One of the largest developments undertaken in Cardiff city centre, the mixed-use project comprises 500,000 sq ft of new space, including the 14-bay bus interchange with a covered concourse, 318 apartments for the private rented sector and around 90,000 sq ft of contemporary open-plan offices.
ISG have been appointed as the main contractor overseeing the £89m project to construct the Cardiff Transport Interchange. ISG has been working with roofing and façade contractor, Britannia Site Solutions, on the installation of the Safe One breather membrane to provide high-performance water repellence combined with high water vapour permeability to control condensation within the building envelope. Safe One is the only breather membrane in the UK which combines a W1 rating for water tightness, breathability to BS5250 standards and a Euroclass A2 limited-combustible rating, going above and beyond the fire safety standards required under post-Grenfell building regulations.
ITP Account Manager, Jess Harrison, said: “We are delighted to secure a specification for Safe One at this development which is delivering a remarkable transformation of a key strategic site. Safe One has raised the bar for all-round performance in breather membranes and the system is increasingly being chosen for high-profile projects like Cardiff Central Square. Architects, designers, contractors and installers appreciate Safe One’s A2 fire safety credentials, which match the high standards required by law for cladding, and its ability to provide those safety standards without compromising the breathability and water resistance which are vital to the core function of a breather membrane.”
