The new Mall of Oman, scheduled to open early 2021, will feature the country’s largest snow park, bringing wintery family recreation to Muscat
WITH 145,000 SQM of retail space, the new Mall of Oman will be the largest integrated retail, leisure and entertainment destination in the sultanate.
The mall is being created by Majid Al Futtaim Properties, a leading developer of shopping malls, retail centres and leisure complexes in the Middle East and North Africa. Providing entertainment for the whole family, the Mall of Oman will feature the country’s biggest VOX cinema and the sultanate’s largest snow park, as well as a “Magic Family” entertainment centre.
A key contractor on the ambitious ‘retailtainment’ project is AK Cladding, manufacturers, suppliers and installers of roofing and cladding systems. Part of the system being installed at the Mall of Oman is a superior vapour control layer (VCL) produced by North Yorkshire firm Industrial Textiles & Plastics (ITP).
Powerlon VCL 250 is polyethylene sheeting with high tensile scrim reinforcement. It offers superior water vapour resistance to minimise interstitial condensation, particularly crucial in the extreme conditions for this project and location. It is being used both in the wall and roofing systems at the site. Powerlon VCLs also act as air barriers for controlling ventilation, are CE approved and come in a choice of grades.
ITP is one the UK’s leading producers of protective materials for building and construction, with specialist expertise in chemical resistant and flame retardant technologies. The most recent addition to ITP’s product range is FlameOut Block, a flame retardant VCL independently rated as B1-s1,d0 (EN 13501-1).
