Environmental & Recycling Policy

Our environmental and local community commitment

The construction industry is one of the world’s largest consumers of energy and raw materials. In the EU, construction is responsible for around 40% of CO2 emissions and nearly a third of all waste. With that in mind, our industry has an important responsibility to implement policies and practices which reduce waste and carbon emissions throughout the supply chain.

Industrial Textiles & Plastics (ITP) Ltd have a well-established commitment to environmental responsibility and our local community. We have developed policies and strategies with key objectives to maintain environmentally friendly working practices and to minimise our impact to the environment.

We perform all operational activities and maximise pollution prevention in a manner that balances environmental considerations, quality, cost-effectiveness and the views of our community, customers, employees, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and other interested parties. We manage every aspect of our business to carry out our environmental responsibilities, meeting and exceeding the requirements of legislative and regulatory bodies.

Our management team shares the responsibility for environmental management with all colleagues who in turn all have a responsibility to continually improve our environmental performance.

Our policies and practices are designed to serve a range of key objectives:

Key Objective Icon

Raise employee environmental awareness and encourage action in both the workplace and at home.

Key Objective Icon

Minimise the impact of raw material use and waste through careful design, contract specification and process control.

Key Objective Icon

Minimise emissions through careful design, contract specification and process control.

Key Objective Icon

Monitor and minimise energy consumption.

Key Objective Icon

Continue landscape and architectural improvements in line with environmental best practice.

Key Objective Icon

Engage with communities in advocating and actioning environmental commitments.

Core Measures

At the core of our environmental commitment, we have introduced a range of core measures and processes designed to reduce waste and carbon emissions:

Core Measure Icon

Waste Management

  • We minimise waste in production by optimising production runs and raw materials
  • We separate and recycle production waste where possible.
  • We separate and recycle general waste e.g. cardboard, film, packaging, aluminium, glass, paper & food.
  • We convert waste to energy for all production waste that cannot be recycled.
Core Measure Icon

Energy Efficiency

  • We use energy efficient lighting in production facilities and offices.
  • We use electric forklift trucks.
  • We have electric charging points for vehicles on site and where possible use energy efficient company cars.
Core Measure Icon

Responsible Packaging

  • We minimise use of packaging.
  • Where possible use packaging made from recycled materials.
Core Measure Icon

Transport Efficiency

  • We optimise packing of pallets to maximise transport efficiency and minimise CO2.

Our Zero to Landfill Programme

ITP have stepped up our commitment to carbon and waste reduction with a Zero Landfill initiative launched in partnership with security waste management specialists, Avena.

Around 350,000 tonnes worth of textiles is sent to landfill each year, producing 26.2m tonnes of CO2. Operating throughout the UK, Avena provides a fully tailored collection and secure destruction service to ensure that end-of-life textiles are diverted from landfill and used for repurposing, remanufacturing or conversion to energy. ITP’s Powerclad scaffold sheeting is made of 100% polyolefin which can be recycled or used for waste to energy, not only supporting safe working practices in construction but also contributing to carbon emission savings. If you’re a scaffold contractor or supplier with end-of-life sheeting supplied by ITP, you can support our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the environmental credentials of your business with certified evidence of your contribution to our programme.

As part of our partnership, Avena will visit our clients to collect end-of-life Powerclad scaffold sheeting and transfer it to their facilities. Their service will collect within typically 10 working days of a request being submitted.

Avena meticulously track all items collected, ensuring complete security and precise data collection.

This allows them to generate the total tonnage of collections and calculate the amount of CO2 their solutions save by diverting items from landfill.

As part of their service to ITP customers, Avena will issue a certificate of destruction to prove secure disposal along with environmental impact statements to show tangible carbon savings.

As part of the Zero to Landfill programme, plastics recycling specialist, Vanden, will use its laboratories to analyse material and determine its potential processing requirements. Once a detailed material specification is established, Vanden pair recyclable material with a suitable UK or international re-processor equipped to recycle it effectively.

Vanden ensure the material has the correct licence and documentation before it is transported to the re-processor, where it is recycled to re-enter the supply chain.
