Air Permeable Scaffold Sheeting and Netting

Air permeable sheeting and netting are essential for scaffolding, enhancing safety, stability, and environmental protection. These materials allow controlled airflow, reducing wind resistance and improving working conditions.

A key benefit of air permeable sheeting is wind reduction. By allowing air to pass through, it minimises wind load on scaffolding, reducing the risk of the collapse of the scaffold structure. It also acts as a barrier, preventing debris from falling and protecting workers, pedestrians, and nearby properties.

Scaffold netting provides similar advantages, controlling dust and debris while improving site safety. It reduces the risk of falling objects and enhances visibility for workers. Additionally, it supports environmental compliance by containing airborne dust.

Both materials offer weather protection while maintaining ventilation, reducing heat build-up. Durable and reusable, they are a cost-effective and sustainable choice for construction projects of all sizes.

Powerclad Vented Scaffold Sheeting
High-performance vented sheeting

With a 100gsm weight, this robust open-mesh sheeting  allows some passage of air, reducing the impact of wind forces. The sheeting is suitable for all scaffold systems and is also ideal for temporary perimeter fencing.

Powerclad Vented Scaffold Sheeting is available in a Standard Grade compliant to BS 7955, and a Flame Retardant Grade which is compliant to BS 7955 and flame retardant to BS 476 Part 12C. Powerclad Vented Scaffold Sheeting is available with flexographic or digital printing, including super-large-format printing and full-scale façade reproductions.

The netting can be secured to scaffold with ITP’s Ratchet Ties which are available in bags of 100 ties, in lengths of 25.4cm or 38.1cm. A minimum of one bag of ties per roll is recommended for proper installation.

Powerclad Filter Sheeting
High-performance filter sheeting

Suitable for all tube & fitting and modular scaffold systems, Powerclad Filter Sheeting is a highly effective weather protection and containment system which improves the working environment and site safety.  Compliant to BS 7955 and flame retardant to British standards, this exceptional filter sheeting product is particularly recommended for exposed locations with a high risk of wind acceleration. Its closely woven air permeable mesh help to contain debris and dust, dry out interior works, and disperse paint solvents and air pressure during stone cleaning or shot-blasting.

The sheeting can be secured to scaffold with ITP’s Powerties,  elasticated toggle ties  which are BS 7955 compliant and supplied in bags of 100; a minimum of one bag of ties per roll is recommended for proper installation.

Product marking and certification for flame retardant debris netting

Much like scaffold sheeting, debris netting is often subject to misunderstanding surrounding testing, marking and certification relating to fire safety. Many debris netting products are marked with between one and three red stripes to indicate that they are fire retardant once the packaging has been removed. This can be misleading as these bands do not confirm whether the product has been subject to a one-off test or rigorous independent testing by an authorised independent body.

Debris netting must be fully certified as fire retardant for use in the construction and refurbishment of high-rise buildings. Debris netting also needs full certification for developments which are valued over £2.5m or part of a larger project valued over £20 million. Failure to use debris netting that meets this standard potentially causes the ceasing or withdrawal of insurance in relation to the Joint Code of Practice on the Protection from Fire of Construction Sites and Buildings Undergoing Renovation (JCC).

Many manufactures supply their products with red bands and claim compliance without explaining that their loose definition of compliance is based on a one-off test. This is not the same as full certification, which needs to be carried out through an approved testing regime by one of two organisations in the UK: Exova Warringtonfire and BRE Global/Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB). Products that are subject to one-off tests are not suitable for the construction and refurbishment of high-rise buildings or the requirements of the JCC: Exova Warringtonfire or LPCB certification is the only guarantee of compliance.

ITP are advocating more clarity in product marking and certification. Our Powerclad FR Debris Netting is the only debris netting certified for any colour with unique identification to confirm TS 62 certification. The product includes a red band, but more importantly also includes a marking at the end of each roll showing the certificate number which stays on the material. We believe that the type of identification supplied with this product should be essential for any fully certified debris netting, enabling HSE inspectors, contractors, developers and scaffold specialists to choose products with complete confidence and peace of mind. The identification included on our Powerclad FR Debris Netting simplifies the HSE process which is critical in the planning of construction projects.
